About Mavis

Hello there, I’m Mavis, a postdoctoral fellow in neuroscience who is also a home cook, food blogger, and self-taught food photographer. I was born in Ghana but grew up in Canada; I currently live in Ontario. I started this blog as an outlet for my obsession with food. When I’m not working on experiments or writing research articles, I’m usually thinking about new recipes, reading cookbooks, learning about nutrition, and of course cooking and eating food. I also like researching and learning about food history.

On this blog, you’ll find recipes for classic comfort food as well as health-conscious meals that don’t compromise on taste. I mainly cook African, Caribbean, and American (including Canadian, Mexican, and South American) food, so that’s what you’ll mostly find on this blog. I will share authentic recipes every now and then but I like to experiment with food, so most of the recipes that I post on here will be my own take on things. I hope you enjoy reading this blog and trying out the recipes. I look forward to seeing your feedback and other comments on the recipes that you’ve tried. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Happy cooking!
